Actually, Basti küntzel, the German trustee, that u heard so much about on this EJBM (he's realy great at fundraising and so forth) is going to have an explanation on Infofile R-02 on our NA meeting in two weeks so im gonna listen carefully to what he says... he says it's alright to stick with the status quo, but i think if we deliver a better version of Infofile R-02 or some smart guidelines (smart as in smart not as in s.m.a.r.t.), we should still present it!!!

Our Thoughts
At EJBM 2008, a discussion about CISV and Politics was started. The aim was to discuss if our actual definition of non-political is right, and how we should behave in case of political demonstrations in our countries. Can we join them as members of CISV? Using our t-shirts and our flags?
Aim
The aim of this project is:
- Start a discussion involving all CISVers about:
- How should we change Infofile R-02 in order to clarify if we can or we cannot take part in demonstrations?
- Is CISV political?
- How should we change Infofile R-01 to make clear that CISV must be against war?
1. R-02's inconsistencies
We started analyzing the R-01 and R-02 documents: the Statement on Peace and the document about participation in demostrations, respectively.
We found that especially the R-02 document is extremely unclear about what we can actually do:
R-02 begins with the statement that CISV International cannot give explicit authorization for participation in demonstrations, but just afterwards it sets guidelines for the NAs in case they participate.
These are:
A) The proposed action must conform to all local / regional / national / international laws.
B) The proposed action must be consistent with the goals / philosophy / rules of CISV International and the national CISV constitution.
C) The proposed action must respect the international and intercultural character of CISV and its independent non-political status.
It would be like telling you: "you cannot drink, but in case you do that, just drink beer, vodka and gin".
So we think that this document should be completely reviewed, due to its unacceptable lack of clarity.
2. To be or not to be, that is the question
We think that the point "C" is the core of the problem: are we really non-political?
Reading the Statement on Peace (Infofile R-01), it's clear how CISV encourages his members to act upon certain concerns such as:
- lack of intercultural awareness
- violations of human and particularly children's rights
- denial of access to education and possibilities for personal growth
- internal and regional conflicts
- tense international relations
- underdevelopment
- deterioration of the environment
All these concerns are really "political" beacause the word politics (from the greek polis) means the interest for what happens in the society and not the actions of Parties.
Then is CISV political?
Our answer is YES!
We are political as long as we care of what happens around us, so why shouldn't we work and collaborate with those who share our values, maybe in a demonstration?
3. Clarifying our values
We think that there is one big "concern" missing in the R-01 document, and it is the war.
Why do we have to write "internal and regional conflicts" and "tense international relations" while we can simply write: CISV is against war?
