What We Do
These are some of our projects, events, and activities
- APRIL Global Youth Service Day (GYSD): this a day in which all of the JB USA chapter participate in a service project. This is done with an organization called Youth Service America, an LMO whose mission is to create a global culture of youth who are committed to a lifetime of service, leadership and achievement. This year GYSD will happen on April 15-17th. To learn more about this organization check out their website: ysa.org
- OCTOBER The youth NBM. The adults have their NBM at the same time.
- APRIL JB Presidents training: we have a meeting called Chapter Development weekend for training and education. **NOTE: for us, JB President basically means LJR.
- MAY National Mini Camp (formerly NYM) --
- ALL YEAR Local (~8 per year) and regional mini camps (5 per year)
- DEPENDS JB National programs: besides mini camps, which are for all ages, we have three programs that are focused on specific age groups: Discovery (ages 11-13), Forum (ages 14-17), Summit (ages 18-25).
- Discovery: a weekend-long program similar to a Village experience. In national programs, there tends not to be programming foryounger JBers. We wanted to fill that void, and keep JBers who are just coming back from international programs involved (and provide opportunities for people who did not get to attend international programs over the summer).
- Forum: combines educational activities with JB leadership training for high school-age JBers. Participants don't need to be JB Presidents/LJRs or have
- Summit: modeled after Seminar Camp, this program allows older JBers to design and carry out a collaborative, community-based project. Summit often involves Mosaic. It's cool stuff. HAPPY NEWS: Also, we're thrilled to be having the 2011 Summit with JB Canada!
Who We Are
JB USA is a thriving and active organization with a strong organizational structure (JB USA's Structure & People) and a TON of cool projects (as you know from reading the previous section). We've subdivided our 22 chapters into 5 regions
The 5 regions, ...
... and the 22 chapters within those regions
Here's a map that shows where all these chapters are -- as you can say we are very well-represented on the east coast, in the mid-west, and in the south, though the West still has room to grow http://www.ijb.cisv.org/mwiki/images/5/56/800px-Map_of_USA_with_state_names_svg.png
National structure: don't believe everything you've heard -- the JB USA structure is actually very easy to understand. Basically we have 3 NJRs (1 that works just with our national EC, called the Executive Youth Trustee, and 2 that do normal NJR stuff for the JB, called the Committee Youth Trustee/-Elect), 1 committee that helps the NJRs with training and communication (National Youth Committee - NYC), 1 committee in charge of our National Mini Camp (NYMC). Our JB Presidents (LJRs) = the "National Junior Board of Trustees/NJBOT," are the voting/governing body of JB USA. We also have a National JB Advisor that oversees all the local JB advisors and acts as an additional link between youth adults. Finally, we have a JB Historian to help us document events and preserve information for the future, and to help us uncover where our organization is coming from. See a neat graphic here: JB USA's Structure & People.
