19TH March, Wednesday: Arrival Day

Introduction and going through the schedule

The whole group met in the main room and there was an introduction of th team by a video made by the past EJB team members, Laura Green and Noam Wakrat, respectively former PECo and ReCo. After this funny presentation, the EJB team presented themselves. There was a point of clarification by the EJB Team regarding the withdraw of the team member, Marek Boneki, ex-PECo. They explained everything that they knew about the situation, and stated that it constituted no difficulty and shouldn’t become an issue in this EJBM. After, the team presented the schedule and EJBM sessions that would take place during this years meeting relating them to the EJBM goals. Deadlines and trainings and things to be aware of, where introduced as well using the info sheet that you can find in these minutes.

Presenting the Past

After dinner, Ico started a new session where we were all laying down and making a “trip to the past”. The group traveled through time to other year’s EJBMs. He explained how the group of people got bigger such as the objectives of the EJBM and the skills we can develop. Then we saw a video with pictures from past year’s EJBM’s (from 1997 till 2007 – ten years of EJBM). The presentation included a list of participants of the EJBM, hot topics going on that year (including elections for ReCo and PECo, what motions were put forward, trainings and the outcome of all of these EJBMs).

20th March, Thrusday: Second day

Good Morning Time

First of all the all group went outside and Nic talked about Candibles (what is a candible?/who is nominated?/how to nominate someone?) and introduced them: - Camilla (DK): ReCo - Laura (IT): ReCo - Charlie (AUS): PECo

Afterwards the EJB team ran a bounding energizer session

Circle of JB’s

Nic presented the “Circle of JB’s” session: Each country gets 60 seconds to tell everyone about what happened in their JB during last year, since the EJBM 2007. This session had a powerpoint presentation, which consisted on each countries answers to questions that the EJB team had posted on JB Pedia, for people to answer to in their countries’ JBs pages. And the EJB Team collected this information and compiled a powerpoint presentation for the session. The questions that the countries had to to answer were the following:

1. What were the best things that happened in your JB in the last 12 months? 2. What were the biggest challenges for your JB in the last 12 months? 3. How have you used the theme of cooperation and communication within your JB? Has this had an impact? 4. Which key events have helped to make your Junior Branch this year? 5. Which song lyric would represent your Junior Branch year?

FRANCE 1. We changed the JC selection system in order to get them more involved Juniors are more and more involved in CISV FRANCE National Board We had our NJBM were we elected our new NJR and new FIREs (working group coordinator) We are working on creating our own JB organization to get grants from the state and to finance required diplomas to staff CISV activities in France Working with LMO called Trac'Aventure • 2. Make our NJBM (RNJ) more interesting and inspiring for new and more experienced juniors How to involved new juniors We had to convince CISV France of the importance of having a national JC selection Filling in the age gap between "new juniors" that are young (15-16 in France) and numerous and "old juniors" 3. Our way of communicate improves thanks to our FIREs. Updates of the mailing lists in order to reach different kinds of people i.e. juniors, national board, NJRs... Cooperation by trying to do stuff which are not CISV with CISV people plus their friends 4. 2 NJBMs per year Youthski: ski weekend trying to open to the international MOSAIC training 5. Daft Punk: "Harder better faster stronger" For further information, please contact us : njr@fr.cisv.org

CZECH REPUBLIC 1. There are plenty things going on-our Jb is finnally growing so we have more people involved. We started to plan our first intenatinal weekend and we already have some international guests that promissed to come.We were also able to send much more people to intenational weekends of other countries so we are more experienced.hopefully. 2. We started a new way to get to know each other better-which mean our planning is better, cause we work much more as a team and the biggest challenge is probably the inetnational weekend that ll come soon.we also have a lovely jb t-shirt this year..and thats cool. 3.We tried to work on it and it was a great sucess..we cooperate and comunicate much better-offcourse there are always exceptions.. 4. We have a new cisv office where we can meet whenever we want to.it is very nice to have a place to stay and do not always meet in public places.also we keep doing cisv weekends on a very nice place in the moutains... 5.Probably Mraveneček..very nice and lovely czech song..we need to thnik pof some english one you all could know..

ISRAEL 1. a. We had the MoCoCo!!!! b. We had a very good NJBM and a very good JB mini camp. c. We established a new JB board. d. We're going to come up with the coolest JB shirts ever!! e. We're planning on hosting the next EJBM, we have the greatest place, and a very good staff 2. To get the two chapters closer(in all levels JB/Board/participants). 3. A. We had the MoCoCo that was related to this topic. B. We had JB projects during the NJBM, and they're working throughout the year. The MoCoCo got JBs very motivating, and got the people that went there very close together and to CISV. The JB projects did the past year a very good year for JB Israel, we had a lot of new activities together, a new JB board, and a lot of fun within our JB. 4) A. EJBM last year B. MoCoCo C. NJBM D. The common JB activities E. The second JB mini camp 5) I'm sick of Nativ and i'm Sick of Liad, today me and Ori are walking with our hands together (mococo 07).

SPAIN • 1. The restructuring of our JB. JB commitees and LJR position have been created in each chapter, and regular meetings and activities have been done. • 2. Decide how to do and start the restructuration, and how to make more people active. • 3. As the fisrt step of the restructuration, we wanted to improve the communication within our jb. For that reason, the jb mailing list have been renewed and an e-group created. We also started a real cooperation betwen our chapters, by having some activities together and regular communication between them. These cooperation and communication between chapters have been very important during the whole process. • 4. Three different events have been really important this year: -the e-group creation, so now the communication is easier and all information gets to more juniors faster an easier. -Ibérico, as it helped to have more people commited and interested, and all the idea of the restructuration started to became real. -Jb commitee training weekend: when the restructuration took place and the new jb spain started to work. • 5. We have some spanish songs, but to choose an international one, let's say "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", as they all have in common the idea of things and dreams that became true and real, as it happened with our ideas. ".....And the dreams that you dare to dream, Really do come true.... Why, oh why can't I?..."

HUNGARY 1. Party in a country house to bring together new and old CISVers. This improved participation greatly. We hosted Eastern European Workshop which boosted our core CISVers 2. Not enough appreciation of the Workers in JB and not enough commitment. 3. Our cooperation is reflective in our hosting of the EEWS. 4. Our Mosaic training motivated people to work on projects. It gave us energy and showed us many new opportunities. 5. “I’m on a Highway to hell” “Imagine all the people on JB Meetings”

COLOMBIA 1.We organized the IJBC, ARMM and AIM 2007. - We had our National Camp done by juniors - We made our chapters a lot more involved in the national structure. 2. We are having Regional Cooperation with JB Ecuador, JB Peru, and we send juniors to the European Advanced Workshop. - We had our National JB Meeting (CHANNEL) - WE ELECTED our new NJR!!!! - WE ELECTED OUR NEW JB NATIONAL BOARD! - JB National Board, has been in both chapters giving support, and knowing what is going on on the two JBs 3.Gather a group of participants for the National Camp - Make our National Junior Branch Meeting more interesting for new juniors. - Improve the communication channels among us (Emails, calls, facebook) 4. 5.Revolution, Beatles, 1964

SWEDEN 1.Our big SOs (NJBMs) are free of charge for all juniors this year. - We changed the nomination system for the NJR- and SJR-posts which led to several more people running than last year.- Juniors from CISV Sweden participated in a school tour, with a goal to increase knowledge on inclusion/exclusion for 2500 Swedish high school students 2. The NJRs and SJRs have had some problems with finding a sufficient way of communication. - We have worked hard trying to convince CISV Sweden of the importance of the SOs being free of charge. 3. We have improved our way of communicating with the JB members, by our blog (njrsweden.blogspot.com) and by the NJRs offering msn-dating every Tuesday.- During the SO of November 2007 we had a workshop with the goal to promote regional cooperation in our four chapter regions. - We are trying to get the different national committees and working groups to participate in the NJBMs, in order to improve communication between different levels of CISV Sweden. 4. We had a great SO this fall, and we have some really cool projects in our chapters and local JB-groups. Since JB Sweden is such a big JB we have several small projects going on but not a lot of really big ones involving all of the JB.

ROMANIA 1. We have: had a lot of new people joining CISV Romania elected a new Board trained all the members that were going on a CISV program designed a new CISV t-shirt We organized our first IYM which was a success We had 2 participants in Hungary participating in the Mosaic training and we are getting ready for our first ever Mosaic Project 2. Finding the right people for each program; this year we ended up with way too many juniors under 15 who wanted to go on a program and too few 21+ year olds to serve as leaders. We also had some problems within the National Board due to lack of organization, communication but above all motivation of the board members. Lack of funds 3. We have agreed that we don’t cooperate enough and that we communicate inefficiently and we definitely need to change that. 4. 5. “I need a Hero!”(Bonnie Tyler - Holding Out For A Hero)

GREECE 1. Our Junior Branch was represented in the EJBM 2007 in Italy by Orestis and Galini who brought back their experience so this year we send 4(!!) participants! We had two local mini-camps: one in May 2007 and one in December 2007 We had a one-day activity for Peace Day: Drawing Peace! We participated in a one-day meeting of international and local NGO's in the center of Athens. We hosted the international JB weekend MoCoCo that was a project planned at the EJBM 2007 by JB Italy, JB Israel and JB Greece. This was one of the most challenging things for our JB! 2. As mentioned, one of the biggest challenges for our JB was making MoCoCo come true. It was the first time for as to take part in the planning of an international JB weekend and we encountered some difficulties but it finally worked! Organising, like last year, at least 2 national Mini Camps during the year. Only few people to organize all JB activities. 3. By encouraging our members to take an active part in the planning of our activities. In the planning of MoCoCo between juniors of JB Israel, JB Italy and JB Greece. We created an e-mail account for our JB through which we send all the info for upcoming events, invitations, answers to juniors' questions etc. We created also a yahoogroup and uploaded photos from our activities and files with information. The impact is that now we have more juniors to actively take part in the planning of JB activities. MoCoCo proved that we can do it! That with effort we can cooperate internationaly and achieve things. The e-mail and yahoogroup made it a bit easier for us to communicate things we wanted to do, sharing information and ideas for activities. 4. MoCoCo Peace Day Meal at Nephie's!!

DENMARK 1. The re-structuring of the danish junior-branch Our NJBM 2. The restructoring of JB Denmark was and still are one of the biggest challenges. This is not to be understood as a problem but just a challenge that we are all very excited about and wants to get the most out of it. The biggest challenges in the last 12 months (and probably more) was and is making JB Denmark more inclusive. In the sense that JB shouldn't be an exclusive club for 15-20 years olds in Copenhagen but should include 15-25 years olds in all of Denmark. 3. We tried to use the theme of cooperation by having a great deal of cooperation with JB Sweden. We planed a picnic and invited the swedish people and few actually showed up. We tried to have some swedish members in the staff of IJBW (international JB weekend) but unfortunally that did not work out. So we have to admit that the theme did not have a huge impact. 4. The NJBM in November always has a key-position in the jb-calendar. New ideas, motions, thoughts etc. are revealed and shared; such as the re-structuring ideas, the jb-news editing, planning of the international jb weekend and other great events etc. 5. Ase of base: "..All that she want is another baby, she's gone tomorrow - all that she wants is another baby, yeah yeah!" All the great participants of the NJBM created a fantastic dance to this wonder song and the song became a determined item for the weekend - like what Shakira would be without her booty :P

POLAND (no information sent)

PORTUGAL 1. A big increase on the number of member of our JB with really good potential. 7 candidates in our last NJR election. We improved our mosaic programs, with making projects with partner organizations. 2. Make the new group of people to be part of something, to motivate them. The 2 new NJR's, that were elected started from scratch. 3. No 4. Some big activities and get together, such as "Festas dos entas" (the 70's 80's 90's) party, our Christmas afternoon, "banco alimentar" (the food bank), and the organization of the EJBM 2008 and the ODC workshops. 5."let's get loud" "living la lida loca , the shrek version" "I believe i can fly"

LATVIA 1. A team of our juniors were working on our first ever MOSAIC project - a movie about the youth in Latvia. Work is still in progress.. :) For the second year we organised Peace Day activity and this year it was bigger than last year -> Peace march through the old town of Riga, it was beautiful :) Also for the second year juniors from Latvia (delegation of 10 people) participated the International JB weekend in Finland, it was fun again! Thanks JB Finland for the invitation! 2. Due to some problems in the actions of our National Board the JB work this year wasn't as good as it could be. We didn't succeed in organising any local more-than-one-day activities this year. 3. We didn't use the theme itself (however the work is always based on cooperation and communication), nevertheless we worked on renewing our address list and also on the home page which as we believe will improve the communication (therefore also cooperation) a lot. 4. The cooperation between our juniors to make MOSAIC, Peace Day and trip to JB weekend in Finland. As it was said before, we didn't have any local JB activities which should have helped our JB. 5. Gloria Gaynor - I will survive (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xv6lHwWwO3w)

AUSTRIA 1. We had our new NJR elected, we had a great NJBM and we started to work better with our National Board. We gathered a lot of new Juniors and managed to make our NJBM again international thanks to JB Romania!!! 2. Due to the fact that we had new Juniors we didn't develop as much as we wanted. We also have new LJRs and our local level is suffering a bit. 3. We tried to improve the communication among our jb chapters and we also made the theme of our NJBM "Let's start the cooperation". We ran some sessions on the NJBM concerning this topics. 4. As always is the NJBM one of our fixed elements in our JB year. We already had our annual skiing weekend in Carinthia and we are also going to make the 2nd Leadershiptraining together with our national LT-Chair. Then we are going to have 2 national Workshops in April and May. 5. 4 non Blondes - what's up; because of our 1st leadershiptraining this year were a lot of our juniors were present. ("And so i wake in the morning and i step outside and i take a deep breath and i get real high and i scream from the top of my lungs: What's going on and i said..."

GREAT BRITAIN 1. Fairtrade Hoodies and brilliant minicamps/weekends. 2. Getting people to get into things (communication...), fitting everything/everyone into Lizzie's car Jimmy and the ultimate debate: Cankle or ankle? 3. It has come up a few times, and we're looking forward to it coming up more. 4 .Both NJBFs, and the hard work of both NJRs 5. Ti Tuga digga tu Gi Friba fligugibu Uh Fligugigbu Uh Di Ei Friba Du Gi Fligu fligugigugi Flilibili Ah was a good moment in Will and Ryan in the Year 9/10 diary room video. I don't know why. It was funny.

ARGENTINA 1. In the last 12 months JB Buenos Aires show everyone who we were and where did we went. We organized some great events, as, for example, a costume party or an amazing minicamp called "suMATE", and were able to experienced responsability and leadership. Throughout the year, we grew inside and outside the JB and had a lot of enthusiasm to improve and get stronger every day. In a way, a more solid JB was formed and participants were determined to finish an outstanding 2007 and begin a memorable 2008. (Cande) We hosted an international workshop: the first JB South WS in history. It was very successful, we had the pleasure of receiving 62 juniors from 14 local JBs (6 countries)! (Maru) I would say something that is less "tangible" in the sense of, for example, JB activities. In my opinion, last year's training was a key aspect in our JB. I'm proud to say we have very well trained juniors, with awareness of why they are in the JB and what they are doing. (Ceci) 2. As JB Buenos Aires is still in develop everything was a challenge for us. Some of us were new and some others had some or a lot of experience. We had to learn to work as a group and be aware that what we did brought consequences to everyone. Cooperation and commitment were – and still are – essential ingredients to learn and get experience so we had to work a lot in them. Every step we did was a knew lesson for us and sometimes it wasn't so easy. (Cande) We had a hard time dealing with the Senior Board - reaching agreements with them was a challenge we had to face permanently. We would like to find ways to cooperate and understand each other! A super challenge was hosting the JB South WS (...with no financial help, or any other support, from our chapter). (Maru) The distance between saying and actually doing. In one word: commitment. (Ceci) 3. We have hosted a workshop with many different JBs and this experience triggered a wave of cooperation projects within our Nucleus of Development. We are looking for ways to communicate better with each other - and we are connecting with the JB World through JBPedia, ARMlist and by being active readers and contributors to IJB Thinks. (Maru) 4. The outstanding minicamp, I think, was a key event from were we nurture our JB. As it was the first minicamp we organized it was a big challenge for us but, 2 cups of enthusiasm, 3 cups of dedication and tones of commitment gave result to what we are proud to call "suMATE" Minicamp. (Cande). JB South WS. Not only the fact of participating with other 60 participants in an international workshop is a very good motivational start, but also, it made us all realize we know much more than we think we do, and we have great skills to make the best out of our JB. (Ceci) 5. Ace of Base: All that she wants? (Maru)

LITHUANIA 1. We decided to host an International Youth Meeting - our first international programme; The younger CISV members put their hand on practice - made a cool weekend for the older members; CISV Lithuania celebrated its 2nd Birthday (as a registered local organisation); An annual members' meeting in Marhch, just before the EJBM; Leadership training for staff and leaders going to international camps; CISV Christmas - like every year! 2. Planing the International Youth Meeting was probably the biggest. Since the registration, we're also making our chapter more organised. 3. 4. 5. The weekend organised by the younger members. It is literally the bit from the Sympsons movie - spider pig. You should check it out to see what I'm talking about... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsqcKMUHcZo&feature=related [edit]

FINLAND 1. - International weekend camp – - Summer gathering – - NJBM including good educational activities and a lot of fun stuff – - The awakening of local activities in the Tampere chapter. – - Many new faces joined our happy JB family 2. – - Estonia promotion. We had two representatives from Estonia at our international weekend camp, otherwise All Quiet on the Promotional Front. – - Lack of sweet young boys. We used to have a decent gender balance, but we haved failed at recruiting a new generation of cisv manhood. Moreover, new girls are not abundant either: the average age is soaring and we can't find the refresh button. – - Lack of camp sites in the Helsinki region. It is increasingly difficult to find camp sites suitable for our budget near the capital, even though a great proportion of our active members come from Helsinki. 3. – not really. Our theme was personal development, which roughly meant getting to know oneself better. 4. – - Meetings and planning with JB representants from (almost) all chapters. Many active JBers did a little bit of planning and together it was a bigger help for NJRs. 5.At our NJBM we made new lyrics to a song called Moscow. – We made the lyrics in Finnish so here is just some kind of translation

BELGIUM 1. Just check the precedent informations in the section "our news". 2. To develop the JB Belgium, to improve the activities and to invite more people ("new" and "old" JBers) to come. 3. We didn't know that the theme of last year was cooperation and communication...So it's quite difficult to answer to this question. But, in preparing activities, we ask to each planning group to cooperate in that group and with the Committee. We have to remind about all our activities to answer better to this question. 4. BeNeLux Weekend, JB Integration Weekend and Dancing Evening... More comments in the precedent informations. 5. Hummm... I have no idea right now. Probably a song speaking about evolution and construction.

ITALY 1. Two AWESOME junior njrs were elected! lots of new people entered the jb, which also brought to another great thing that happened, which is a minicamp, called 'pochi ma buoni' (the good few) where one new jber from each chapter camped and did activities, also to get new jbers to get to know each other better. a national mosaic project was also started, and it is still going; an italian delegation also participated at the mococo, in greece. 2. The comunication among ljrs and njrs became a bit of an issue, as the past two years we had a phenomenal ljr group, but this year new ones were elected and the group is very weak at the moment. 3. We didn't really work on that through activities. it wasn't an issue to work on. 4. Again, the huge number of newbies that joined, and the 'pochi ma buoni' minicamp had a good impact on the jb. 5. Hot stuff by donna summer ok this needs an explanation: apart from the fact that our jb is HOT STUFF! the three njrs that attended the february national meeting did a coreography on that song, and that's pretty much the main reason :D

PHILIPPINES 1. Amazing Race – JBs get together and race around manila and solving problems. Good for team building + fundraising Big peaceday celebration Several Minicamps 2. Gettting people together Getting people to organise 3. Strengthening Communication strengthening yahoogroups JB Website More Casual get togethers 4. Amazing Race Peace Day Celebration 5. We all live in a yello submarine – The Beatles (we need to be more united as a country to move forward!)

EGYPT 1. Vast selection of events and activities(eg. Celebrities party,Selfless Valentine's event, movie night..) Very successful NA/JB cooperations (eg. Mini AIM, CISV Egypt structure WS, Carnival) Participated & Hosted in Taba workshop for the JBs of Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan. We’ve started an initiative to start task forces to work on various projects and problems in our JB (database of JBers, Local summer camp, etc) We developed a local marketing brochure to help JB, Mosaic and IPP recruit participants to participate locally. 2. Lack of attendance of events, same people planning and attending events, lack of new blood New heads of JB committees (Slower progress than having a mixture of first timers and people who were heads of committees before) After having 2 committees responsible for planning events it is now one committee because the fundraising committee are focusing on approaching sponsors Some people not taking volunteerism seriously Struggle between getting more people to attend and planning in depth activities 3. Cooperation yes, NA board, program committees and JB board have excellent cooperation, we plan activities together, have an annual workshops with NA and JB. Communication is also great, we use the @eg.cisv.org egroups to communicate with everyone on various issues that face us and ideas that circulate (eg. Human rights year…) 4. Mini AIM workshop Taba Workshop Christmas Lunch CISV Booth in Cairo's SOS Music festival and booth in a school open day. 5. Freed from desire Because: We danced to it in several CISVer's weddings & Parties It was on the Carnival's cheesy 90s music playlist A beautiful JBer had a dream last year in which this song was the soundtrack Some of the words in the song reflect exactly where our JB is this year

THE NETHERLANDS 1. What were the best things that happened in your JB in the last 12 months? Some really great weekends with lots of participants. Great new enthusiastic board members 2. What were the biggest challenges for your JB in the last 12 months? Can’t seem to keep older people in JB People who study seem to have other things to do 3. How have you used the theme of cooperation and communication within your JB? Has this had an impact? Haven’t really focussed on it. We had some cooperation activities but not specific attention to either. 4. Which key events have helped to make your Junior Branch this year? Refresfed our JB Board with some new members and new influence in JB. 5. Which song lyric would represent your Junior Branch year? “ I just can’t wait to be king” Lion King

GERMANY 1. What were the best things that happened in your JB in the last 12 months? najuwo (international jb weekend) with two professional actors doing workshops and almost 60 particiants from ca 10 countries national junior branch conference with 35 participants and good workshops, 2. What were the biggest challenges for your JB in the last 12 months? how to grow jb how to train jbers 3. How have you used the theme of cooperation and communication within your JB? Has this had an impact? not really (besides the coincidence that we had theatre-workshops, which can be easily connected to the theme, and we had a workshop on feedback during our njbc) 4. Which key events have helped to make your Junior Branch this year? see question 1 5. Which song lyric would represent your Junior Branch year? we cant really decide so we have two: 1.sorry that this is in russian.its the original tetris music lyrix.

EJB Report The team introduced their report to the whole team. This presentation consisted mostly on a follow up on what the team had been up to in the last year, and some future projects. Please refer to the presentation in the “Bring it home” CD.

JB Essentials The IJR’s, Kelly and Marcos (ijr’s) run their session to introduce the new JB tool called JB Essential which basically consists on the essentials of JB, Goals, ways to work on them, etc. You’çç find here the summary of their session as well as the important points made in the presentation:

They divided people in groups, and each group had a name of a veycule. Each group, everyone wanted to go to a festival  All the JB’s are part of a global movement. They did a comparison between jb and going go a festival. The festival was supposed to be the junior branch goals. How to go to the festival?  How to achieve the jb goals? The festival  junior branch goals. How the car works?  The idea that JB’s are constantly developing. Driving your way?  The idea that JB’s are self-governing entities. Being at the festival (presentation of a music video of an old festival)  The idea that all JB’s are part of a global movement. Then everybody talked in group and people start asking questions about the presentation that was made before to Kelly and Marcos.

The presentation can be found in the bring it home CD that was given to the participants before they left the EJBM.

JB Idea Machine

This is one of the sessions that falls under JB Development that was used to share challenges about your JB, and try to get as much input from other countries in order to try and get solutions for your challenges. This was also a learning session where people could learn great deal about other JBs, similarities, common grounds. This sessions also as a aim to stimulate ideas for JB Projects.

JB idea Machine has 3 main aims: 1- Learning about other JBs, how they function, what they do 2-Telling other people about your JB, and by doing so: self evaluating 3-By hearing about other JBs and talking to others about yours, come up with great new ideas how to develop junior work when you return home

Trainings

Ico introduce all the trainings to the whole group and asked people to sign up for all the 4 different parallel sessions on trainings. The trainings that were held during this EJBM were (Topic-Trainer): - JB in the society (Juanma) - Team evaluation (Karo) - Not another WS (Joana) - I want to party with large groups (Lizzie) - JB goals in practice (Marcos + Ico) - CISV and Peace Education (Marcos + Pia) - Secret WS (Sweden) - Team work “The right recipe for the right cake” (Hana) - Communication and Connection (Maru) - How to communicate within CISV (Charlie)

Buddy Cleaners:

This year buddy times was used to clean and just to have fun as a group. There were only 3 phases in the buddy times: 1st: joining in groups, and come up with a name and the material and techniques you would have to use to clean the room your group was assigned to clean; 2nd: the “Buddy Cleaners Ultimate Challenge”, a game where the groups had to guess interesting fact about cleaning world Guinness records and so on. 3rd: the cleaning finally arrived, and people did clean the campsite on the last day, using the materials and techniques that they have come up with during the 1st phase.

Night Fun – Israeli Activity

This session we had a activity prepared by Israel in which the participants were divided in four groups and had to compete against each other. They had to do different tasks in order to achieve as many points as they could so they could get the final prize – some little presents brought from Israel. Then we all went party outside.

21st March, Friday – Third day (Lizzie’s Birthday)

Good Morning

This one was prepared by Banana and Louise. The activity was like a human “Super Mario”. The objective was to save the Queen (role played by Lizzie, the birthday girl). Each person had her own role (Mario, Luigi, star, turtle, coin and Bowser).

Cooperation and Communication – two sessions long – two phases

The group started the session that would take all morning, and was divided in two parts. The 1st one was more communication oriented, while the 2nd part was more cooperation and creation of possible JB Projects oriented. Follows a small summary of what took place in the two sessions. For forms, and general planning document, refer to the “Bring it home” CD.

The group split into 8 groups and were then split again into 2 sets of 4. The 2 sets ‘aim’ was to create 5 posters about the JB goals between the four of them. However the teams were not allowed to communicate by any other form than letters. Throughout the activity information that included details of what was needed on the posters was put on the ‘information wall’. Only one person was allowed to view the wall a maximum of twice. The following was the information the teams were given-

1) Each team must do at least one poster 2) Each poster must be in a different colour 3) ‘JB’ should be written in a different colour to that of the main poster 4) ‘CISV’ should be underlined

The posters were presented to both sets of groups and none of them had 100% achieved the perfect set of posters according to the rules.

Each of the groups then discussed communication issues (what happened, how did go wrong, how does this compare to your own JB, how can you improve them?) Nb. Some countries made use of Facebook for fun.

Then there was a split into delegations to chose which JB goals needed most attention and from this set a communication plan that would help them better achieve their chosen JB Goals. This plan aimed to be enforceable and used back home.

Back together in a big group, all the countries ticked boxes in a table to make it easier to see which common problems countries shared within the goals. From this countries were to decide who they wanted to ‘date’, based either on common JB Goals that they wished to work on together, or based in other reasons why to cooperate (proximity, similar JBs, similar needs, same desire to run same activities, knowledge sharing, etc)

Then people had two dating slots, where they could talk about possible cooperation strategies that would better allow then to reach their set JB Goals. From this session, was expected that JB Projects ideas would come out.

ASK activity (Point of Reflection Session)

Ico introduced the delegations their tasks which consisted on a continuous lists of physical things to do, that from the 1st taks to the last, the delegation had to keep on doing, and should delegate who to do them. Then, each delegation was given a piece of paper with a table. The table required delegations to look at task they perform and use the ASK (Attitudes, Skills, Knowledge) model to address the way they work. They were also asked to look at who is doing the activity, the time scale required to do the activity and whether it’s necessary for the NJR to do the task.

Open Space – CISV Devils

Since the beginning of EJBM, people could find hanging in the EJBM main rooms devils proposals to comment on. The sessions started with Devils Proposals posted on the walls which had written critics and other points of view in certain areas and aspects regarding CISV, our programmes, bureaucracy, the way we do things, etc. The participants had the chance to read them to help them to remind some aspects they didn’t agree about CISV. Then they got a paper and a pen and started writing other topics, concerns that they had towards CISV, so they could facilitate a discussion regarding this topic.

There were 3 times slots for the discussions to take place Then we started a discussion in group where everyone discussed what they think are cisv devils.

“Unpolitical” – Guidelines Basic question: is Cisv as unpolitical as we saz it is, and why aren’t we allowed to join likeminded political happenings. Statements: - Couldn’t join a Peace-march as CISV - Wanted to write a letter to the government, with a statement against the Irak-war but weren’t allowed to - Can’t express opinion as CISVer - A political party takes sides in a conflict, so we cant join an event of that party - Can we express an opinion as an CISVer without violating the opinion of another CISVer ? - CISV works towards its goals by building global friendship not by joining those events - But we do want to go outside this box ( does the rebranding realy fit? ) - CISV has no clear statements on this some ppl think CISV is about programs, others think its about acting towards our goals in the real world - We need to accept that our goals are political - No need for a political party - Need to clarify our goals - Reference to statement of peace, where it shows that CISV is very much political

CISV-WORLD vs. REAL WORLD (Hana) Statements: - how to stop seperation? (between real life and cisv) - work with NGOs or project with external world in all our activities - discuss relevant topics that are controversial - cause: way of communication and action in CISV  inclusion - start acting, stop theory - it’s hard to share use presentation to publicise cisv and share and cooperate with other ppl represented - encourage more challenges and discussion  general global problems - try spreading cisv more: hard because: we have our own opinions/philosophie and we want ppl to experience for themselves - get cisv more related to reality: get away from the idea of travel agencie and engage in different things related to the world ( aids day, volunteer day…) - talk about political issues

Children Living Happily (Helene) Based on a devils proposal. The CISV song should be called the village song instead because it has nothing to do outside villages. It has sentimental value to many people but this doesn't make it CISVs anthem. It is fine and has a propose in a village but it doesn't define CISV as a organisation. It is out of contest for other CISV programs or activities like AIM or JB.

Homophibia (Lizzie) -Different environments between villages and seminar- some environments in CISV are not welcoming to the idea -what about the leaders?? -Not an open topic -unspoken -nothing structured and around homophobia/being homosexual -Strange that people who are gay feel they have to ‘come-out’ to a CISV group -We’re still using old mentality of the 1950’s for village and we should reform what the role models we project are, e.g. -we should be teaching what we think should be seen as different in society, some form of education -we rarely actually voice the awkwardness between people with differences even though we teach it. -not global CISV, e.g. parts of Asia not being comfortable to discuss certain issues -We almost expect that people will be of the same mentality -Controversial to introduce it into mainstream programmes so maybe have to do it nationally and regionally meetings -No practiced social norms for a response to the issue -If there’s something to still ‘protect’ then people feel like there is a barrier between two sexualities. If CISV has already produced a certain openness and education towards sexual orientation, then like with race and disability there is a movement to be faced and overcome.

Where is Europe going? (Camilla) - talk about EJB as a region, that sometimes it makes more sense to work with people that live far from you, rather than people living close to you. This means that the concept of subregions do not work according to geography, instead the cooperation within the entire region is increasing. - EJB strategic goals: some kind of common (standardized) goal for all countries within the region.

Elitism In CISV (Sweden) - CISV programs are expensive - Ppl from well-situated families are privileged - Some countries have a different situation (f.ex. in south America the situation with elitism is stronger than in Europe - It´s getting better  it´s developing in certain region (fundraising) - In the Philippines for example they are doing fundraising for kids who cannot afford to go abroad - An idea was to focus on National and Local activities more - Spain had the idea to do a camp for only Spanish people to reduce cots - Fundraising could be made within other LMOs - Fundraising can be an effective tool but not a solution forever - Also we should try to foster things like Mosaic which allow education on a local level - Fundraising is still exclusive as it makes people stand a bit on the outside… there is a lot of things you experience in a camp, like campshop, shoppingday and people would kind of be excluded - It would be interesting to have a calculation on how much money is spend throughout the year within the whole CISV - Different fees for different countries and different camps could help - Elitism is not only a phenomena outside of europe but also in Europe - The elite is going to be the ones evolving the society - There is also other kind of elitism: - Handicapped people - Elitism because only few people know about CISV

CISV & Alcohol (Kajsa) The discussion started with the issue of alcohol at AIM being brought up. It was noted that it would be really hard to ban alcohol from an AIM. It was stated that it’s not good if people use alcohol in CISV since it’s far from our goal. Some people meant that CISV or a JB, however, might be a good environment to try alcohol for the first time in safe surroundings such as in unofficial JB meetings. CISV is about learning and it’s better to learn about alcohol in CISV. It was then stated that it was a bad idea to remove alcohol from Seminar Camps since people would drink afterwards anyway. Alcohol exists and it’s better to deal with it. People should be able to enjoy alcohol without getting really drunk. A reply said that it was good since a lot of countries don’t allow people at the Seminar Camp age to drink alcohol. The ban was made to make all people equal at Seminar Camps equal. Alcohol Is a social connection and it’s not nice to non-drinkers to have alcohol as people bond with it. Alcohol is not needed to socialize and the rule is about abuse of alcohol, which often happens. Smoking was also brought up as a way of socializing that people start doing really early, and as well as something that people often start doing in CISV. Some people said that alcohol should be allowed in camp in moderate ways. People has to be reasonable about it and be able to handle it. Some people, however, said that we have to take non-drinkers into consideration. CISV is not the forum for alcohol.

CISV resources (Banana) Cisv resources must be a more friendly usable tool, and easy to use, to such old and new members. It’s really hard to find something on it, and some of the files are already out dated. In order to make this work here are some points to take in consideration:

- Remove the form that are not used and the one with the old logo (so that it make it easy to find forms) - Classified them by program (I.g village- staff- delegation etc…) and have an external link to jb pedia, - Make the search tool in the web page work. CISV rules (Bartek) There is to much rules in CISV This is good that we have rules in CISV and most of them are needed. The problem is that people do not know them and do not obey some of them.

Solution of problem 1) there is many rules that means the same- make them in one 2) there is rules guide needed – there should be every rules that we have in CISV 3) we should pay more attention on that during WS so that people are aware of those rules

Leadership in EJB (Karo)

-Question: What is the leadership in EJB- how did it use to be? -unofficial roles in the past, now it’s been more formalised. -The formalisation has increased and then more recently leadership has been seen more informal -the size of the region needed the Recos and Pecos to facilitate more and more -The ARM region changed their structure to the ‘ARM Team’ who are self appointed with one main facilitator who is the only elected member? -There’s been a major change in shapes -Interesting to see the change in the regions shape. -The leadership has had the ability to change and maybe this is needed for us to be able to expect a new situation and adapt with it. -Forming (chose those who get elected), storming (who can do what, what’s the strength of the team), norming (rules for the group etc.) performing (doing what it is you need to do) -See what the team is first before you chose the projects. -The group has to have a common goal but the team can adapt around it. -It’s difficult to norm before you form -Taking the best from a group -De-motivation of candidates that were lost -People change, can’t predict what is going to happen with just a Q and A -The leadership of the team has been more goal orientated than role orientated.

Other discussions also took place, but no minutes were received. The discussions topics were the following: Superficial: Quality vs. Quantity (Anna Not just a lot of talk (Liad) Simplifying our guidelines (Dario)

Midway Evaluation:

The midway evaluation was only regarding things that could be changed and consisted on 3 phases:

1st: an individual one, which used a powerpoint support with mind engaging pictures to stimulate people to come up with their first thoughts regarding 5 areas:

- Sessions - Schedules - Group Feeling - EJB Team - F-U-N

2nd: in groups of 9-10 persons, they would have to share their thoughts about these 5 areas, and come up with a common general feeling of the group, and to come up with suggestions to make improvements.

3rd. The homestaff evaluated practical aspects of the EJBM

Night fun – Boggie Night People really lived up to it.

22nd. Saturday

JB Projects Formation + JB Project time I

This session was led by Nic. Participants were 1st asked to groups into ideas that have had during the EJBM to JB projects. You could also work on: 1- The continuation of an existing project 2-Identifying a problem/something missing (in JB or CISV In General) 3-A New Idea 4-A Cooperation 5-Personal Development (whether this is your own jb or your own project)

This process happened rather fast, and we ended up having as JB projects: 1) The Alps Rocks – by Paul, Mella, Bine and David 2) JB Tube – by Juanma, Anna, Fie, James, Louisa, Ioana, Francisco, Monina, Kiki 3) JB cooperation – by Egypt, Sweden, Belgium, Israel and Poland 4) Ibérico – Spain, Portugal 5) MoCoCo – Ido, Laura and Galini 6) EEWS – Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria 7) Politics – Paul and Banana 8) JB Weekend Lithuania

Conflict and Peace Education – IJR Sessions

The IJRs introduced the *fascinating* theme of “Conflict and Peace Education”. This was started last year as it was felt that as an organisation, although we talk a lot about peace and conflict, we often don’t work towards discussing and changing situations. It is planned to continue until AIM 2009. The theme was introduced through a simulation of Nic and Kelly arguing over how and who was going to run two sessions. This was then compared to the recent conflict between Venezuela and Colombia and then Ecuador over the FARC organization to make us realize that a conflicting situation has similar features no matter if it is on small personal level, or that of world politics.

During the session the IJRs gave us a preview of the very exciting upcoming pack suggesting the use of the theme within JBs. The aim of the pack is to get JBers EXCITED about the theme and make it accessible to use within junior branches working towards the JB goals. Within the pack the IJRs also presented their idea of changing the current model of learning fact, based on experience changing the structure to one where actions and discussions should be based on fact and not just on opinion and experience. This should make the conclusions to discussions more relevant to our actual goals and to what is actually happening in the world.

This *amazing* pack can be found on the IJB library.

Optional Activities

This time was optional and was used to have sessions that people could attend if they wanted. These sessions were trying to answers to needs that the EJB Team had anticipated or simply to have participants running sessions that they wished to run, not taking siesta time out of the people. The sessions that happened where:

- International Structure -Kelly– in this session the international structures of CISV International, IJB structure and to some extent the EJB struvture - Decision Making and Motion writing –Marcos and Nic– in this session we tried to explain the decision making procedures so people were well informed regarding the procedures in order to make the decision making process easier. - ASK Model –Ico- During the midway evaluation, it was stated that people didn’t have the ASK model that clear, and would like to have a better understanding so they could better use this tool during EJBM and have a better understanding of the meeting and the model that the team presented EJBM with.

Discussion Papers

This year two papers were presented. One was by the EJB Team, where they discussed their roles as PECOs and RECOs as well as the strategic pillars of the EJB Team and the flexibility in the regional work. This was done to provide the NJRs with a comprehensive picture of the future evolution of the region. The second paper was a suggestion for the election of new RECOs and PECOs. The suggestion was that we instead of electing RECOs and PECOs this year elect three new members of the EJB Team. This was submitted because the EJB Team works more like a cooperating team than like two different roles. This suggestion comes from the factor that even though there are roles, the EJB Team is still working as a team, and it would make it easier for them if the roles didn’t limit their work. We split into six groups in order to go through and discuss the discussion papers. Some groups pretty much agreed while others brought up different pro’s and con’s of the papers. In the end, almost everyone could see the point of the discussion papers and even if not everyone was convinced everyone was now aware of the purpose behind the papers. Some groups discussed just for around 15 minutes while some kept talking all the way into the break before the next session.

The discussion papers are in a folder in the “Bring it home” CD.

Night fun – Bonfire and Movie Night

This night was planned by the home staff. There was a bonfire, followed by the movies “Crash” and “Ice Age – II”.

23rd, Sunday – Wrapping up day
