JB WATERLOO:

The air was alive with excitement, discussion… and the smell of baking cookies. JB Waterloo’s annual Cookie-a-Thon was a grand slam this year. With over 70 participants, more than 1050 cookies baked, and more Disney movies than is healthy to watch in one sitting, this year’s Cookie-a-Thon surpassed all expectations.

OK, so we didn’t bake 2009 cookies, as was our goal. However, the cookies were much more edible this year than they were last year. Not only that, but our planning this year was sensational: after learning loads from the mishaps we faced last year, we were able to plan ahead and make sure everything ran smoothly in 2009. It was one of our most successful activities of the year so far.

If you’d happened to drop in at our Cookie-a-Thon this year, here’s what you would have found:

1. More than 70 enthusiastic JBers - a Waterloo record!

2. A strong and organized Exec. with everything under control

3. A few (very impressed) parent volunteers

4. Movies, games, sleeping bags, and popcorn

5. Frenzied games of Jungle Speed, soccer, and dodgeball

6. Kids sleeping in rather odd places… under tables, in corners, behind couches…

7. Two very successful games - one that was pre-planned, and one that became a spur-of-the-moment hit, and went more smoothly than anyone could have predicted

8. JBers up to their elbows in cookie dough

9. Snacks, water bottles, and the occasional burnt cookie to munch on

10. The traditional boast of, “I’m going to stay up all… zzz…”

All in all, it was a wonderful event, and one that all members of the Exec were proud to have been a part of planning. Interesting discussion, a chance to have an impact in our community, and a night of fun with friends were all present at this year’s event. We can’t wait to see you all next year!
