Welcome to the 2010 IJR Election page. Here we hope to share with you all the latest information regarding this topic! Also, we think it is important that the JB World knows how our leadership is trained and elected.

This is the little corner of JBPedia that will provide you with information on:

  • the IJR Candidacy process
  • the Candidates for the 2010-2012 IJR Term: the lovely Mateo+Tore!
  • where to find more information on the Candidates (without resorting to googling, that's a bit creepy)
  • where to find more information on our Electoral Guidelines
  • the voting moment, and how your JB can vote
  • updates on where we're at in the process, right now

IJR Candidacy process

Introduction

You might remember there was an open discussion about modifying candidacy, last year (2008-2009). We were very happy to make constructive changes to this process in a collective way – there was an exchange of ideas on the JB Community and through emails to the 2008-2009 IJRs. A new Candidacy timeline was elaborated, based on these thoughts, and the main changes were:

more IJR involvement in the creation of IJBC's vision and content
IJBC sessions being planned and run by IJB Team members, including the IJRs (with more sessions than the rest)
Candidates becoming IJB Team members, and contributing to IJBC as such
Candidates being considered IJRs in training

People had said that they wanted IJRs to be more present and active during IJBC, and Candidates to be seen as IJB Team members (that is, as parts of a group that they aspired to facilitate). IJBC 2009 was run in this way and it turned out to be very successful! We'll update this page with further feedback from the Evaluations of last IJBC, once they are out.

The 2010 IJR Election will follow this same candidacy process.

Timeline

Your JB has the possibility to nominate one person for the position of IJR. In order to be able to become a Candidate, a person has to receive two nominations, and then he/she will have a period of time to think about accepting or declining candidacy. The timeline is as follows:

OCT 30
Nominations open.
Access call for nominations letter with instructions here here (user: ijb.guest, pass: cisv4all).
Download form here.
Download our Election Procedures here.
Talk to your NJR if you have a suggestion about who your JB should nominate! Remember that if you want a person to have the chance to run, he/she should recieve at least two nominations – so it would be smart to make sure another JB nominates that person at well.
JAN 15
Nomination period closes.
The IO notifies people with 2 nominations about their possibility to run, and their NAs too.
Possible Candidates get two weeks to accept or decline their nominations.
JAN 31
Deadline for accepting or declining nominations.
The names of the Candidates are announced by the IJRs to the JB Community.
Candidates will receive a Questionnaire they should fill out and return to the IO by March 15th.
IJRs add Candidates to the IJB Team lists and introduce them to the members and current projects (in the cases of those Candidates who aren't already in the Team).
MAR 15
Candidate Questionnaires are released!
APR - JUL
Candidates are considered IJRs in training and contribute to the planning of IJBC and to IJB Team projects/tasks.
JUL 31 - AUG 4
IJB Team runs IJBC.
There is a Questions & Answers sessions to get to know the Canddiates better, and learn about their ideas.
AUG [exact day to be confirmed]
IJR is elected through a vote, during AIM. We will give you more details about how to submit a proxy in case your country's NJR can't make it to Berlin.

Role of Candidates

As it can be seen in the timeline above, and as it has been explained so far: Candidates are considered to be IJRs in training. From their acceptance to run onwards, the IJRs let them in on their work, their day-to-day IJR activities and responsibilities, and they initiate a conversation with them about possible doubts and ideas to bring to this leadership role.

Candidates are expected to be active IJB Team members, and to take part in committee discussions and projects. They are also expected to significantly contribute to the planning of IJBC.

In order to provide guidance, the IJRs give Candidates an IJR Candidate Kit that introduces them to the list of responsibilities the role entails.
