Proposal #16: AIM reporter.

I propose that from next AIM (Colombia) on there should be a person reporting back to the CISV world what is happening on a daily (even hourly) basis through the internet. This person should be covered by CISV international's budget or be part of the home staff.

Rationale

The Annual International Meeeting is a great meeting. A whole lot of very motivated CISVers meet, talk, discuss, develop, decide and vote. But then what happens with this information? Some trustees write reports, some observers run workshops in their NAs. Some NJRs (nat. junior representatives) report back to ther NAs - but a whole deal of information is lost on the way.

I personally was lucky attend the first few days of the AIM in Sweden this year, but had to leave. I was really curious how things continued, and was happy one or the other e-mail from my friends there. The Swedish AIM staff ran a great AIM website with a newspaper and daily updates - unfortunately not accesible from outside.

I wish there was one person solely responsible for reporting back to the CISV world what is happening at AIM on a special website, maybe a weblog. This person should visit the committees and see what they are working on, report LIVE from the board of trustees, when they vote on motions, and also publish a few pictures.

I'm sure a whole lot of people would be interested in following what is happening at AIM, and it would also shorten the chain of information spread.

(But maybe this is just a personal view, and most CISVers either come to AIM or don't really care.)

I totally support this proposal.

Even for those who are still there sometimes is hard to follow through all the things going on.

An efficient news/reporting system would help a lot!

The fact that we had the LIVE Plenary this year was already a very good step, but definitely this should be available to the outside world.

Already taking this forward: who could do this? should any of us contact the homestaff so that they can plan ahead on having something like this?

if they dont have the technological resources there (and cant manage to do so), guess even a well-shaped blog could work.

cheers

Agree. Should be in the requirement for AIM hosting, covered by hosting country.

funny you say this Nick - We have tried to get this working at IJBC, but everyone present have so much to do that they don't have time to do this. So having a person assigned to do this would be great!
What it takes to make this successful, is to ensure that everyone not present at AIM is well aware of this information and uses it.

I think this might be a way to approach other problems. As a trustee in Denmark you get reelected every year, but by people that have absolutely no idea of how you have worked as a trustee the past year.

Secondly I find the interest for international work in my NA small or atleast kept within a small "hardcore" group.

Maybe this would achieve a more open and informative AIM, where the goals we set for the organisation will be easier and faster spread to the whole organisation.

I think it should be a team of people to avoid too much subjectivity, which will be impossible to do, but atleast it would be subjective from more than one view.

I completely agree on this proposal, however I'm not convinced of the interest of anything LIVE. While we are at AIM, our CISV collegues aren't at home on their computer desperatly waiting for any piece of info we might share with them.

The live plenary coverage was funny for those of us who wanted to see how boring some sessions were while we were having a cofee on the grass, but I don't think a lot of people actually watched the entire sessions...

But a daily diary of what has happened, sent via email , would be more efficient. Something we could take time and interest to read between end of AIM and the next Board Meeting. But please let's not waste time on geek achievements...

I agree that there won't be many people sitting in front of their computers waiting for an update from AIM - nevertheless, I think the AIM reporter could run stories more than once a day - especially if exciting things are decided, like the new CISV logo, or where the next AIM is hosted, the birth of Mosaic...etc etc
In the end I don't care in which format this happens - e-mail, weblog, public AIM newspaper - most of all I found it extremely hard to get news from AIM when not being there physically. Even now that the AIM is over for a few weeks, it's hard to find out what actually happened at AIM.

I think that the LIVE Plenary was fabulous idea and I was quite disappointed that it wasn't available for outsiders.

I know people have talked about it in the past but actually using it even from inside the AIM (while working in other rooms) was great. for me, it should become an AIM-requirement.

cheers...!

I think that this is one of those ideas that are really easy to implement and that will bring a lot of benefits to the organization.

We can have a simple blog, a wiki, a newsletter or even the live plenary. Any of those options - or all of them - will bring the local cisv community closer to the discussions that we have on international level!

We must send this post to AIM 2007 team!

nice ideas... We will write them down and try to do our best for next year! :o) and if any more ideas, please tell us!!

I complety aggree... It will be a very useful tool to involve people who is not at all in administrative position within CISV, at national or international level.

I agree as well. And I think someone like I should do it - and not only one.

I think every IJBC and AIM should pay for two or more people with a journalistic background to cover what's happening and tell others about it in a summarized, easy-and-interesting-to-read way.

As I study journalism, I am very willing to take on a responsibility of this sort.

AIM Staffs, just write me at cisv@vinh.dk.
